I just bought a Mavic Air and while reading the instructions they say do not fly over trees or bodies of water. My question is why? If I have a VLOS and am high enough. Does this have something to do with the sensors?
My Yuneec drone can fly anywhere I take it responsibly of course.

It's perfectly safe to fly over trees and water.

Depending on where you plan on flying it might be hard to find terrain that did not have any trees. Do they expect you to fly in nothing but barren wastelands?

They probably meant very low, as less than... 3 feet?
Yes the sensors can be confused on a mirror surface like calm waters...

Bottom ultrasonic sensors will see constantly varying height when flying close above trees and that may cause unwanted vertical movement. Best to disable them, then you're all set.

It could be that if you are on the ground and the aircraft is above the trees there could be a problem with the signal degrading as the trees seem to ruin radio signals. if you have line of sight (you are above the tree line as well) shouldn't be a problem
