Well to be fair, you should also mention that they both are small drones but don't occupy the same niche.

Well to be fair, I just wanted to continue the string of well to be fairs...

They certainly both belong to the small foldable camera drone niche. And the Mavic crushed the GoPro in that category. These two drones are very much competing for mostly the same potential pool of customers, even if there is small niche of customers who demand a removeable action camera with a fancy selfie-stick.
