Just bought my first drone (Mavic Air) and I just love it. Bought it to mainly to film while on vacation in Puerto Rico. Should get amazing footage there. Been practicing my flying in an RC airfield in Van Nuys called Apollo XII which may be shut down by the FAA for being too close to an airport (Need to self unlock the geo fence everytime I fly), but here in LA it seems impossible to find a place to legally fly. Bummed I won’t be able to really enjoy this great hobby.

Short answer - if it's gray, go fly.
If its colored, dig deeper to see why and get LAANC if necessary.
Drag the map around and roll the mouse wheel to zoom in.
Notice in the top-right corner, you can drop down the advisories for the selected area for the details.
I have an on-going year-long project that I am doing now at https://app.airmap.io/geo?34.095355,-118.425833,15.933161z its in Beverly Grove; the true Beverly Hills - no advisories.

I saw on AirMap that Kenneth Hahn park does not have a controlled airspace and went there hoping to fly only to see a posted sign say No model airplanes. I imagine that drones are far from model airplanes but don’t want to take a chance at getting any grief from anyone or even worse, fined. I just signed up for AMA and a group called SCORCH out of Palos Verdes to be able to fly near the Palos Verdes City hall, but it’s a 40 minute drive and don’t think I’ll be able to go there often. The Apollo XII in Van Nuys was a go to place, but the FAA shut it down. I’m very disappointed that it’s such a drag to fly a drone in this town.
