Hello from the highlands

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama USA, welcome to the forum! We look forward to hearing from you!

I live in a beautiful place and I’m sure you will all of seen plenty of footage from this area so I’m hoping to do some of that also I’d like to be able to video aerially some o the Groundworks jobs I do that might be suitable for my website and also my wife and I are going to be building a new house this coming year so looking forward to being able to do some aerial footage of the build progressing .
Can anyone advise on is the DJI insurance worth getting ? I’m seriously considering it as I’m a complete novice and will need to fairly quickly as Ive just activated mine today .
Also on the extras available , do most of you buy additional batteries and chargers ?
Is the mavic carry case a good idea or is a regular bag just as handy ?
Really appreciate any advice you can give
Cheers

My two cents, I owned the DJI SPARK & now the MA2.

I purchased two years worth of the Care Refresh on each aircraft and never used it (in time).

I eventually crashed the old SPARK but it expired and I haven't needed it for the MA2, which has also expired.

Some pilots may purchase it and use it before if expires to get a "new" aircraft if you're wanting to try new things, like the CSC maneuver to kill the motors mid flight or getting the "ultimate" shot before crashing.

Keep in mind, you'll need the aircraft for a replacement.

Sitting at the bottom of a body of water or somewhere that's irretrievable won't do much good.

🤔 🤔

Depends on how much you fly.

My SPARK had a flight time of 12 minutes. I ended up with nine batteries.

The MA2 is 25 minutes or better, and I have four batteries.

I did purchase a Hanatora charger that charged 4 batteries at once, along with the remote and device.

It came with a 12 volt car adapter that is good if out in the field.

I'm not familiar with the stock battery charger for the Mavic 3 classic, it might do this already (charge all at once).

I didn't like the the soft bags that DJI provided and purchased cases for each of my aircraft for protection.

Plenty of cases to choose from and they make nice back pack type cases if you're hiking or biking in areas to capture.

One other item I purchased were prop guards.

They'll protect the props to a point from birds, trees, walls, etc.

Plus they make it easy to carry the aircraft if your hands are full and need to hang it with your pinky finger. ;)

.

Have fun shopping. 😊

Just been given my first drone . A DJI mavic 3 classic DJI RC.

Even if you have flown Drones before, here is some Good Old Fashion Advice…

You paid a lot of money for that Drone, put your phone number on it. If your drone gets lost or stuck in a tree and it finally comes down when you are not around, give the finders an opportunity to contact you so it can be returned.

Now, for the Fun Part, But do not let the excitement of the moment get the best of you. When you are going out to fly, do it slowly and deliberately. Get used to a set procedure and even practice it.

There are so many things I could write but these are the highlights that I feel need mentioning.

Plug in your phone/tablet into your controller; turn on the Controller and DJI Fly App (if it does not start on its own…). On the Drone, open the front legs, then open the back legs, and then remove the Gimbal Cover.

The Gimbal is the most delicate item on the Drone and banging or bumping can damage it. I also fastened a short "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to the cover so it's more noticeable and I do not forget to remove it…

Turn on the drone and watch it come to "life." Watching the Gimbal go through its self-check is almost like watching a puppy or kitten opening its eyes for the first time…

Place the drone down (preferably on a Landing Pad) while it finishes its self-test (collecting satellites, etc…).

Check your battery status (Phone, Drone, and Controller), check the Signal Strength, by now the Controller should have reported it updated the Home Point.

Lift off, 6 feet (2-meters) or so, hover a bit, check the controls (move the drone a bit forward, back, left, right, yaw left and right). By now, your Controller will probably report again, "Home point Updated."

If you go out in a rush and race thru your start up and take off before the drone has finished it prep, it may update its Home Point over that pond or that old tree you are flying over and in your excitement, you'll fly the drone long past it Low Battery point and when it engages Return to Home and lands in the pond or in a tree; it will be all on you…

Now go have fun, learn to fly the drone by sight before you try to fly it out a distance depending on the video feed, FPV.

I would also advise you to use YouTube and watch a lot of the Videos on flying and setting up the Drone. When it is too dark, too cold, or too wet, you can "fly it vicariously" through YouTube. Also watch some of the Blooper Drone Videos and learn how not to fly your "New Baby."

Below is the link to all of the downloads offered by DJI for the Mavic 3, including the User Manual.

After you read the Manual, read it again, you will be surprised what you missed the first time and you will be better prepared for that first "scary moment…"

Fly On and Fly Safe…

Welcome to the forum! :)

Flying indoors is not recommended - especially as a newbie. DJI drones are designed to use GPS to help maintain position holding. Without a valid GPS signal from multiple satellites the drone will try and use its optical and inertial sensors to maintain position but will most likely drift and make the drone much harder to control. Sharp, fast spinning blades are dangerous and can result in serious injuries.

Much safer to learn flight skills outdoors in a wide open space clear from buildings, trees and other people.

I made my first purchase ! I’ve gone for a symik P380-M3DL hard case , it looks tough and has great reviews.
I will be buying the care package tomorrow and also a couple of batteries from the supplying dealer who is offering a 5% discount .

I could really do with some advice about how to load up videos and pictures to an iPad and an iMac computer . I’d also like to know do I need editing software for the iPad or the iMac . If anyone can help me with this would be much appreciated and also what memory card should I be buying ?
Thanks again for any advice

Cheers

Welcome to the forum, MAVIC3 is an awesome drone, congrats...

Definitely a yes to spare batteries and a car charger, and a better case from me - My Air 3 and MINI3 Pro both have rucksack typs cases so I can carry them comfortably for some distance, our AVATA has a more hard case design...

Whereabouts in the Highlands are you? We are based down in Manchester, but come up to Scotland 3 or 4 times a year, last trip was Skye and Lewis and Harris, next is possibly Tongue in Feb and then Blairgowrie in April and Skye again in June...

RAF low flying area covers a large amount of the Highlands, but is not always in use, check the RAF schedule and if in doubt then ring the RAF Low Fly team, and they will let you know if you are safe to fly..
Military low flying: RAF operational low flying training timetable

As to editing, I am a huge fan of DaVinci Resolve, free and very well featured, however a steepish learning curve...

Good luck, looking forwards to seeing your captures...
