Hello all, some of you may have read my "pilot introduction" post elsewhere on this forum. I purchased a used DJI Mini 3 which was supposed to have been unbinded (unbound?) from the original owner. Of course, when it arrived I found that it is still bound to that person. I reached out to the previous owner through the retailer I purchased the drone from and luckily, I am being told that person has been responsive to their requests to help and has gone through the steps to unbind the drone through the DJI app.

I have myself gone in and logged that user out, logged myself into the RC controller which has been successful. The problem is when I connect the drone, it still shows as bound to the original owner. I have performed factory resets on both the RC controller and the drone but again, when the drone connects and I attempt to log in with my account, it shows the other guy's partially redacted email and says the drone is still bound to that person.

The retailer tells me the previous owner has followed all the right steps. They have even reached out to DJI but apparently not gotten much from them.

Am I missing something in this process?

It shows you an Email?? What? Did the previous owner simply delete the app thinking that would unbind the Drone?...Tell them they gotta do it just as the above advice in post 2 says, or you wont be able to bind it to your account.

I think DJI makes this incredibly difficult and dos not tell people this needs to happen.

I bought a drone, actually traded for real estate photography and at the end the old owner reneged and would not release the drone nor give me payment in exchange for my services.

In my humble opinion, DJI does not have to be Drone Police if they don't have a plan to deal with this kind of issue!

It's super complicated to explain but it is doable, you just have to go thru the correct steps. You're lucky the original owner is compliant. There are two types of binding and it's very possible the user unbound the DJI Care Refresh related option instead. Maybe you can read thru the following and get it sorted:
