Last nights pics, I almost lost my mavic!

I was traveling out to my Girls parents house ruffly 4500 meters from my house. I usually can make the trip and return with 30 percent battery, Last night I had no idea the winds above 60 meters got up to 35 km so I came to the battery return to home point and my mavic spun around and barely got 20 km in return home mode. Panic set into my soul at 2000 Meters that I had 29 percent battery. I ended up getting lucky after a few prayers when I force landed in my yard with 4 percent battery. A word to the wise for all mavic pilots, even if there is no wind on the ground always do a small test at you preferred altitude. I did manage to take some nice pics so I'll share them here. Maybe you can sence my panic in my shots. Cheers gang

I’ve gotten lucky on a few forced descent low battery flights. One came down in a heavily wooded area and I thought for sure was gone, but a family saw it come down from a bridge over the river, retrieved it and brought it into the Discovery Center where I was composing a thread for the forum asking how I might find it.

I seem to learn only by mistakes and errors. I make it part of my process/methodology. Of course, it requires progressively pushing the envelope.

I err on the safety side of battery when RTH is into the wind, at a higher altitude and on a ridge line with lift. These birds don’t come down quickly.

I mostly record video, practicing cinematic moves and forgetting to take pics. Video and photo setup is different as I’m shooting slower shutter speeds, which in theory will result in less sharp photos. Fortunately with the M2P I have some leeway with aperture/shutter.
