Mavic Air Crashed into South Holston Lake

Hello,

I recently purchased a refurbished drone direct from DJI. I've flown it successfully with no issues until tonight. I was flying over South Holston Lake and was over a mile out and decided to bring it back home. As I was turning to bring it back, it began warning me of "NAVIGATION SYSTEM REDUNDANCY SWITCH" and "ATTI MODE". I lost video transmission, but at one point the video came back and I was able to see that it was very close to the water and banked at a sharp angle. I again lost video and then the transmission signal was lost. I am certain that it crashed into the water. I'm very upset because I loved flying my drone. I'm very confused as to why the drone didn't return home when it started experiencing issues. I am wondering if DJI is able to assist me with this in any way? This was a huge investment for me and I really want to enjoy flying in the future. Can someone review the flight log and help me figure out what might have went wrong?

This looks like failure of one, or maybe both IMUs. All three rate gyros show significant disagreements between the two IMUs, and two of the accelerometers (y and z) also disagree. As a result there are large disagreements in pitch and roll, leading to similarly large disagreements in yaw. That's unrecoverable, but also prevents ATTI mode from working - the FC was unable to keep the aircraft level.

Can't see how they wouldn't, that's a pretty catastrophic failure !
 
Wow. I figured it had to be something catastrophic since I had no control whatsoever and it wasn’t returning home. I really hope DJI will replace this. Sucks that I lost a nice ND filter and SD card as well.

which program do you read the file from, I thought it was encrypted and only read by DJI

DatCon reads the mobile device DAT files. The MA and M2 aircraft DAT files cannot be read - as @BudWalker put it, DJI hid the keys to those.

Right - I didn't specifically say it, but this looks to me like clear hardware failure. I would escalate the ticket if the initial analysis comes back inconclusive, which it often does.
