Neo and palm control -- Am I missing something?

I really like the Mavic Air and Spark's gesture control. They are great for group photos, selfies, quick action videos. The Mavic Air's gesture control is reliable enough to change its direction, height, and distance from me or my group, then take photos or videos. All this can be done without a remote or phone. It's great for scenic hikes, family selfies, etc. Sometimes, I just want a photo and not video (I know I can extract).

When DJI announced the Neo, I thought it would have those features and more. Phone control is nice, voice might be useful, etc. However, after watching several videos and looking through the manual, I don't see a way to use palm control to take photo selfies. I don't even know if this can be done using a phone. It seems like the Neo is a video drone with preset modes and manual control via phone or remote. There is no gesture control to position the drone or to take pictures.

Am I correct, or is there some way to do what Mavic Air (and Spark) can do as I described above?
Thanks.

Neo pilots,

I've been looking at this for a bit and hate missing the Amazon sale. dji says this is palm based, and I've seen the videos. Out of base curiosity, can the Neo be landed (not crashed) on some other pad or surface than your palm?

There's a bundle for $290. I probably should bit the bullet and order one soon as the price may skyrocket in the near future, if available at all. So many places are showing Out of Stock.

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama USA, welcome to the forum! We look forward to hearing from you!

I think units are going out of stock because they are hard to get and the few that come in are sold immediately.

Like you, I'm thinking about getting Neo as well but knowing I probably won't fly it for the winter, I'll stick with FPV and Avata2 for now. The two offerings for Americans are the base package and the base package plus 2 batteries and a hub. So not really a big difference. I can go with either because I have been buying a few Neo batteries here and there as I find them discounted so I have about 6 at this point. Then if the base package goes on sale (but not the combo) I have no problem buying it. I also bought a hub and a 3rd party cheap hub on eBay...among other things. I'm hoping when this settles down, there's an Neo+N3 combo which is really what I am waiting for. Don't think the prices are going to skyrocket; this drone depends on the low price else no one will pay for it.

Yeah you can land the Neo on the ground.

And then came the Flip.....

As long as you use any of the control methods (phone, remote) then yes. It's just for the 100% autonomous mode that it has to be palm takeoff/landing since you have nothing to direct it to where it should land.

Yes.

With the phone or rc.

I don't think you can command it to land somewhere else when using the autonomous modes.

I've been banned as a spammer at NeoPiots and have been advised to contact an administrator however that doesn't seem possible.

Can someone provide a link so I can correct their mistake?

Please create a NEO section here.
I don't need another forum.

The NEO is not a "Mavic" type of aircraft.
It's the whole "making separate forums for each brand name" that's stupid in the first place. Just means all forums for models with lesser appeal are basically dead and that discussions like those about regulations that don't depend on drone branding get repeated.

Should be one forum with sections for each and common ones for non model-specific discussions like everyone else does it, if they really wanted multiple domain names they could just redirect to the relevant section.

The Neo Pilots forum is far too small for surviving. From yesterday to today just two new posts. Guess many early members are already gone and maybe I will too..

Exactly!
Forums for model specific is stupid. What works is a forum for the brand that include sections for models.
I subscribed here thinking that was the case until the administrator implemented a new forum for the NEO.
The administrator should realize that Liquidity breeds liquidity.

That happens every-time. If we want to discuss the DJI NEO, we should do that here.
On that note, I subscribed to the drone pilot forum yesterday only to be redirected to a NEO dead link.
I then asked the admin to UN-subscribe me which he did. I don't need five or more forums.

It is really easy to get a Neo these days. They are not yet for retail sale on the most popular drone retailer websites and when they are, it's usually the drone-only package and the quantities are limited. Some people do not wish to order from dji.com and receive packages from China. When you find them on third-party site such as eBay, they are generally overpriced. I guess we have to wait until they become more popular to get full-participation in the forums.

I for one am glad there is a specific forum for the NEO as it is a different kind of drone than my other drones and although there are overlaps, it has different and unique uses that my other drones don't have. When I was deciding whether or not a NEO would be a good purchase for me, I joined the NEOPilots forum and asked specific questions of users that already had the NEO or were knowledgeable about it. It helped me to ultimately make my purchase. Since then the NEOPilots forum has been a valuable source of information about FPV - something that I may consider trying.

I don't find being a member of the new NEOPilots forum 'stupid'. I am also a member of PhantomPilots, SparkPilots, and TelloPilots. Although, many of those forums for older drone models are less frequented now they are still valuable for people who have those drones.

You misread what I and someone else wrote. I wrote "Forums for model specific is stupid. What works is a forum for the brand that include sections for models". I've seen model specific forums fail time and time again for lack of liquidity.
BTW, I have a NEO as well. It's a great little drone.
