Not totally true. The Mavic is quite dark. Dressing it for example in an orange skin makes it a lot more visible against darker background like forests, mountains, etc....

Once you get a certain distance away I think the advantage of the color would be minimal. If you stay within line of sight the gray color can be seen at-least by me pretty easily.

Do we know of any designer/manufacturers as i wouldn't mind (for personal preference) having my designed for my loacal football Team (Wolves) which funnily enough is slightly Orange. If i do get it done i can comment on the visibilty prospect of it.
