i thought I read on one of these posts. I shouldn't calibrate near a car or metal or power lines.
Is it safe to fly nears cars or power lines or does that mess with the drone?

You shouldn't fly near power lines full stop. That's pretty self-explanatory :)

When you actually calibrate the compass is when you need to avoid anything metallic, but yeah power-lines are never your friend! My nearest miss with my P3A was with a powerline I couldn't see on my smartphone. It was only when I watched the video back I realised I'd flown past a powerline and very narrowly missed it! A lucky escape I've learned from.

Well it is really never a good idea to fly near power lines but yes you can do it. Once in the air a car is not going to cause a compass problem.
