I heard about this and will head down in the morning. I have a Mavic Pro and 3 batts. I’ve hiked the trails and will pack in a drone to where 206, 209 and 201 trails meet. There’s open area around there and large bluffs.

While your heart is in the right place you need to be a part of the group so that everyone is on the same page. The last thing you want to do is create an incident within an incident.

I understand the conditions and after speaking with chief Kirkpatrick I and maybe some other need to get closer to White Falls where he was last seen. Where and what time are you all meeting?? Is there anyone that would be willing to hike in with me?

I don’t have any communications like walkies. The only thing I can really bring to the table is I’ve been there, have a drone and my all trails app that pin points my location so I can’t get lost myself.
No need for radios. Download Zello to your phone and come up on the “Drone Search & Eescue” channel. That’s what everyone is on. Zello is a powerful walkie talkie app.
Come up on the channel and we’ll do a radio check. Press and keep pressed to talk - just like a radio.

Perhaps he didn't have his phone with him. It's most unlikely that LE would have overlooked such a basic step.

Normally they're right, but word about approvals doesn’t always get out to the LEO’s on the ground... suggest getting a copy of an approval letter from the District Ranger or Forest Supervisor to your searchers - even electronic copy.
