The space race began in the 1950s between the Soviet Union and the United States of America. As of 2016, artificial satellites of about fifty countries are in earth orbit, but only 14 countries have historically achieved the ability to launch them with their own launch vehicles, and 11 have this capability now. Of these countries, 8 continue launches from their own cosmodromes. The launch activities are also carried out by private companies - the American company SpaceX, Orbital Sciences Corporation, and Skyrora. They plana short-range single-stage supersonic unguided rocket Skylark Nano launch made for simulating a launch to then be recovered with the use of parachutes.
