State Farm Insurance instead of DJI Care

It's a risk/reward numbers game for insurance companies. For policy owners who only have hobbyist drone insurance through State Farm, once you have filed a claim, you are no longer generating income for State Farm. Your premiums are not going to cover their costs. In their eyes, you are a higher risk because you have made one claim already,

Well now you have. And that makes two (I am aware of dozen+).

Look, I don't like it either but I know what I was told. It happened to me about 5 years ago. I had the insurance, I filed the claim, they paid the claim, they cancelled the policy, they started a new policy on my new drone and within a few months, they cancelled the new policy stating the one past claim, they gave me my money back. You can call it denying or dropping or failure to renew or cancelling...whatever name you want to give it but I haven't needed St Farm drone insurance (thanks to DJI Care Refresh) for many years until now so I plan to try again (hopefully this year) and let's see if they allow it.
I meant I've never heard of AKKO dropping people after a claim

I certainly have heard of State Farm dropping people after a full payout claim and not reinsuring new drones.

Yep, sorry I missed that. So about AKKO, what gives, did they change their policy recently?

Oh wow. Yeah they must have because they used to insure them. As little as 2 years ago is when I had them for other stuff and I remember drones were covered. I'm sure there's other companies like them if you hunt around .
But maybe they just have a specific drone policy? Messaging a company rep may provide more information.

This article is from 2022 but is still up on their site so

Let me know how you make out.. They won't insured me 5 years later.. One $1100 claim for in over 10 years. I pulled all my Policy's from them over this,.
That's crazy. I have an auto liability policy and a couple personal articles policies for different items. I had my MacBook Pro M1 Pro insured with them and got it wet. Filed a claim, got a check, added a little to it, and went and bought an M3 Max. Called them the next day, then they transferred that policy to the new computer and tried to talk me into insuring more of my stuff. When I got my Mavic 4, before I took my first flight, the first thing I did was go to my State Farm office and take out a policy on it.

State Farm in Florida $75/year also. Recreational only. No hassle.
This is correct. Exactly what I paid for mine in Miami, Florida.

For whatever reason, State Farm will not offer the PAP policy on any drones in the state of CA, and at $75 elsewhere, they are clearly not making money on the policy. Most State Farm agents will deny it even exists.

I also had understood that the $75 PAP was only up to a total of $2,000 of goods, of which a drone could be included.

It's clearly intended as a loss leader for them, as no one else offers a similar recreational policy that covers drones. Hence, when you file a claim, you can't get it again.

What is the dollar amount they are covering for the $75?

If you only lose your drone, but have three other batteries, the controller, and the charger, and hub, and case, will they avtually write you a check for the purchase price of the entire kit?

Curious - I have over $15,000 worth of camera gear and drones on my State Farm personal articles policy. My camera gear has been covered for over 15 years now. When I did lose a drone they covered the entire amount I paid for the Mavic 3 Fly More package even though I only lost the drone.

I had it for a couple of years on my Phantom. When I signed for the policy, they made a copy of my receipt, and the payout would have been the price that I had paid.

My State Farm PAP policy on my Mavic 4 pro was $80 for the Creator. It's insured for $5000 in case I need another one. I paid less and they also are aware of that.
In NY btw

My State farm policy covers my M4P Creator fly more, which is the 3 batteries, drone and controller. If I had extra batteries that I purchased outside of the fly more combo, and I was worried about $200, I'm sure I could add that onto my policy. My M4P Creator is insured for $5000. They have the receipt showing I paid less but I specifically told them I wanted it insured for $5000 as that is what they actually go for in the USA and they were fine with that. I'm sure that's factored into the $80 fee I paid for the year.

Surely the $15,000 PAP coverage costs more than $85?

Are the people here getting State Farm insurance just getting coverage for their drone or are they getting liability insurance as well?
Loss, theft, or damage. The policy for the drones specifies recreational use. I do have a Pt. 107 and my drones are registered as Pt. 107 but I do not engage in commercial work.

So you can also include additional listed personal articles totaling up to $6,000 for the $85?

I need a second home in another state!
I wonder if a Reship address will qualify? LOL!
I could be wrong but I think the policy fro the drone will only cover the drone, controller and drone accessories, batteries, lights etc.Ask the agent.

The policy covers whatever is on the receipt you gave them a copy of when you got the policy. When I lost a Mavic 3 they covered the cost of the whole Fly More package even though I only lost the drone, battery, and SD card.

If you add other items to your policy they are separate from the drone. Each item in the PAP is specific and has its own charges.
