The bottom image is better in my opinion. It is zoomed in more, has better detail in the shadows, slightly better composition.

I downloaded the wide shot, cropped out the white house on the right, took out some of the sky - and now I like the photo a lot.

I also played with the cropping and feel it was an improvement. Didn’t save it however. Again, the resolution and ability to make moderate crops impressed me.

I like the way you cropped the photo in the one below. (I gave it a Like)

I'd say 2nd, as white in #1 is pretty bright. In #2 it the "highlights" seem less and so the contrast is better. Some people like bright off snow, but if too much to me it takes away from the over all pic and the river is the main focus, not so much the snow on the banks.
