I guess like "John Wick," the Video Editor CapCut has been declared excommunicado…

Well there goes my simple free editing program. Any suggestion as to what free; (I know, I'm cheap) program to use now. I don't need a fancy program, just one like CapCut that I can add a start/stop and some background sound.

It's owned by the same company that owns Tik Tok, that's why it's no longer available.
I believe if it's already installed, you will have access but no updates or no way to load it onto a new or different machine.

Although DaVinci Resolve does so much more, you can download the free version and just use it for editing and adding sound to a timeline.

I d/l DaVinci Resolve and imported a couple of videos. One from my drone in 4k, the other from my Canon EOS camera. Bother were rejected saying it does not support this video format. Well that was the end of DR. 98% of my videos are from my P4P and Mavic Pro. Did not make sense. Will continue with CatCut which still works fine.

What computer are you using? I believe the free version of DR on a windows machine doesn't support the H.265 codec for whatever reason. I have all Macs so don't have that issue. I've shot H.265 , H.264, and various formats and haven't had a problem.

Being new to video editing i wanted to try the most user friendly progs i could find and was advised to try Shotcut, Capcut and DaVinci Resolve, i found DaVinci Resolve too much to get my head round (i know its rated the best so my loss) in the end i went with Capcut but the decision between it and Shotcut was close -

Any suggestion as to what free
I also use OpenShot and there are Great tutorials on YouTube for it, but there is no built in music. You will have to provide your own source…

I'm relieved to know that the CCP can no longer use CapCut to glean sensitive information from my drone-videos of scenic rock formations in western Colorado. Just waiting now for my electric toothbrush to be outlawed because the Chinese can use it to map the inside of my mouth, a matter of vital national security importance. How long before my made-in-China Norelco shaver is banned? Will I have to grow a beard?

Latest update from my computer concerning CapCut… My Downloaded Free Version is working again…

Like in the "John Wick Series" the excommunicado was lifted… L :D L . . .

Perhaps the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) gave CapCut a "Full Body Scan" and a "Full-Body Pat-Down…" and it passed… WaHoo…

However, I will continue using OpenShot too… It does not have as many features, but the ease of use makes up for it… I tried DaVinci Resolve but I could not get my head around all the features it offers. Folks with more requirements for their video editing would not go wrong with DR, even the Free Version offers more features than a lot of lesser editors offer in their Paid for Subscription Versions…

If you go from CapCut to DaVinci, you'll definitely have a learning curve involved as DaVinci is far more advanced. If you want a similar feel as CapCut, I would look at DJI's LightCut app too. I like DaVinci for its color grading capabilities and taking advantage of the drones that shoot in D-Log.

Have you tried "iMovie"?

I also use LightCut on my Galaxy A8 (10"screen), I also fly using my Galaxy S2 (8-inch) and my Motorola Smart phone when I am just puttering abut, and I do not know how anyone, save Superman, can edit using just their phone…

I have vision issues and I prefer the larger image on my PC and we know DJI does not have nor intend to release a PC version… I had a friend use an Android Emulator with LightCUt and it was not pretty…

I kind of cheat LightCut. I often just edit a short video, but use LightCut as has it very extensive audio library. I attach a piece of music to the video, and export it out and then use that video to carry the audio, and then I use OpenShot to separate the audio from the video and use just the audio… I like Light Cut but my eyes do not…

There's a few rumors, with circumstantial evidence, that suggests the whole shutdown of the programs, while seeming mandated, were utilized to migrate platforms to connect them all to Facebook and "X".
Coincidentally, today, I received a message (on tiktok) from that rocket ship guy, and apparently so have a few million others.
Coincidentally, I'm sure.
