Once you are up and flying practice ending any of the autonomous modes by switching to sport mode. This tip from this forum has saved me several times from a crash. It is the failsafe move for me when I feel the need to panic.

Yes! And don't forget to click the screen to auto-focus once you are at altitude, even if you have auto focus enabled. I have wasted many flights that came back blurred because I trusted the AFC to keep things sharp, and it did not.
