There are a few hobbyists out there that manage to fly their modified discos to 80Km and back, so not that hard these days, as VTOLS and 4G controlllers are increasing in popularity.

I think Bruce's logical observations are likely correct. How did they know it was 'heavily modified' and details of its performance 'in the dark'? That implies they knew what model it was. Perhaps military or another 'phantom' ...
