XDP, what RC connection and cable are you using for the phone?

It's the stock cable included with Mavic, see the photo in OP.

Some people call it OTG (On The Go). OTG is a type of cable or adapter that allows to use phone's micro USB not only for charging, but, for example, to connect a hard drive.

Thanks to this thread by EDP my Wonderphone arrived yesterday. SIM removed, bloatware removed, mini SD installed, V4.1.8 installed then deleted. V4.1.15 installed, auto-update turned off, maps loaded. Now I just need some daylight to fly with it. I also bought one for my son who also has an MP. Thanks again EDP!

I'll second all of that! I hate to ask any more of him but does Xtreme Drone Pilot do YouTube? This would make a great how-to video. Just don't expect any ad revenue from Apple or Samsung. ;)

No, I don't have youtube yet, maybe somebody else who's already "on rails" can do a quickie?

I read through the entire thread and I’ve never owned an Android product so I’m a bit nervous about setting this phone up.

Oh, it's supersimple, elegant even. Remove SIM before first powerup, so you don't even get bothered by att; press skip for any att and account setup; don't connect to wifi yet; skip-skip-skip BOOM! it's all done, takes a minute and you're on home screen. Now, login to Play Store (if you have gmail already, just use that), then follow the green text in OP.

OTG cable is used between the mobile device and SPARK controller - not applicable for the Mavic. I own both and bought two of these phones as dedicated mobile devices for each, thus the mention.

USB On-The-Go, often abbreviated to USB OTG or just OTG, is a specification first used in late 2001 that allows USB devices, such as tablets or smartphones, to act as a host, allowing other USB devices, such as USB flash drives, digital cameras, mice or keyboards, to be attached to them. Use of USB OTG allows those devices to switch back and forth between the roles of host and device. For instance, a mobile phone may read from removable media as the host device, but present itself as a USB Mass Storage Device when connected to a host computer.

Yep, OTG is very handy sometimes. Example: I needed to print some document urgently (I don't have a printer), the doc was on my Note 4, I'm near Staples. What to do what to do? OTG to the rescue! Copy the file to a USB flash stick, done!

Are any of you using it for something other than the Mavic?

Anything. Car navigation. Listening to FM radio while running. Topo maps for hiking. It can do many focused specialized tasks to augment your other, more premium devices, and can take some beating you wouldn't want your $1300 iphone x to take.

For monogamous "I'm with Apple till death do us apart", it's a chance to peak out of their prison and taste something different other than the chewed up apples. :D (Warning: you may never come back to your chain.)

It's not necessary, but it will likely getting rooted if AT@T pushes out an OTA update to it. Im not going to hold my breath. But if it can be rooted that'd be cool.

This is a great cliffnotes of what needs to be done. Enjoy your WP!

If you use an Android phone as your daily driver, having an extra Wunderphone (not the dedicated one for Mavic) can also be useful for peaking at what updates to your apps do, so you don't update your primary phone to the latest version and find out your experience is ruined. "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

I'll be using my Wunderphone #1 as Mavic screen only; #2 as my daily driver (I'm on AT&T anyway); and #3 for safely peaking into latest app and system updates and other experimental stuff.
