$49 Huawei Ascend XT2 aka Wunderphone = THE best Mavic screen EVER

The Youtube video says its free, but the site asks for money (even the Youtube clip shows a price). So is this free or pay?
Yup, I'm also wondering about that coz it says "order now".

Well, it's still there, and it's STILL a Steal at $90. Just not of the Millenium. Not so long ago, a no-name Chinese phone (infested with spyware, no doubt) for $134 was considered to be a killer Mavic screen:

A terrific dedicated 10 core processor phone for flying the Mavic Pro - all for $134

The deal lasted surprisingly long - 2 weeks (11/22-12/6). 11/22/18 is marked in my calendar for the second Santa coming, with XT3 for $49. And I'll be definitely watching Huawei's product line now, they've got my attention (which was zero before) with this fantastic device.

Here are some side by side pics of the Ascend and my Samsung S7 with the brightness on 100% for both. The Ascend is brighter, however my S7 has a Skinomi matter screen protector on it. The outdoor pics are both in full sun and direct on the screen sun. With direct sun I cannot see the S7 screen but can see the Ascend screen. This may simply be the matte protector on the S7. Not willing to remove it to find out.

I will not be putting a protector on the Ascend.

Also the Ascend opens the Go 4 app much faster than the S7. Not saying it's a faster device, but without a SIM card installed it's faster for this app.

I will echo the many that this phone is a steal at $49 and will be my permanent Mavic device. It will also spend time as a dedicated web surfing device.

So you were unable to connect the MP? Did you install 4.18 first, then delete it and side-load 4.15? If so delete the app and re-install it.
I did not. And I can whack the app. I was surprised that Mavic did not show up as a choice. Can you point me to where i go and what I need to side load the right app? I'm learning Android, trial by fire.

Thanks

Great to hear you like it, thanks for sharing! Yeah, when I wrote "direct sun" in my posts, I didn't mean "bouncing sun directly onto your eyes" - I meant "lit by sun without any shade". When my ipad mini is reflecting my sunlit face or chest, I can't see ****. With Wunderphone, I easily can.

Yep, I installed 4.1.15 immediately from downloaded .apk, the freedom of sideloading any app in any version is like a breath of fresh air after the waterboarding that iOS is.
i finally installed 4.1.15 took me a min to figure it out since i am iOS user, will be testing it out over the weekend. you right XDP the steal of 49.00 is over i told my co-worker he went online he said is 89.99 i said is over them.

Just picked up my phone! Yay! Sorry, I didn’t go back through all 31 pages of this thread looking for this info...Does DJI Go 4 need tin be installed on an SD card? I’m not doing anything but using this phone for the Mavic. AND I am brand new to android, where the heck do I turn off auto update apps? Thanks!

I also compared the Ascend in direct sunlight to my wife's 9.7" latest gen Ipad (both on full brightness). Seems a tie. I think my S7 got washed out because of the screen protector.

My opinion is that the Ascend is just a readable in bright sunlight as any high end smartphone or tablet.

Just when I thought everything was candy and nuts I tried the Ascend with my polarized prescription sunglasses. Couldn't see a **** thing. I can see fine with the glasses on the S7 and Ipad. I think that is the difference between the IPS display on a cheap device and a Full Retna diplay on a pricey device. Not a deal breaker for me as I have been struggling with polarized glasses for years when on my motorcycle. Time to get some new glasses that aren't polarized. My prescription has changed anyway I think.

Perhaps it's the very thing that allows the screen be so bright and visible. We're having some first-world problems here. :D

The phone screen is polarized opposite of you glasses. You could try to find some glasses which are polarized in the same way as the phone or do as I have and add some polarized clip ons which have been trimmed to leave the bottom part of your view clear. I find this to work very well for flying. When I look up at the sky, the polarized lenses keep my pupils from contracting too much. When I look down, I can see the screen better than with sunglasses of any kind. DSC07740.jpg DSC07741.jpg DSC07742.jpg
