5 mile airport radius

I live 4 miles from a small airport in Kansas. Population of town around 800, so not much plane traffic on a constant basis. So I decided to just go visit the man who runs it, and he is also a spray plane pilot and an a/p. I took my mavic pro and controller to show him just what I had, etc etc. I got permission to fly anytime where I live, which is out on a farm. I just wanted to be as legal as I could.

Well, we had a nice conversation and he invited me to his house sometime and fly it there also And, got an invite to be an airport bum and come visit and bs any time he is there and I have the time.

That ended up being a great hour spent for me.

Same deal. Called the Chief Controller of our local Class D airport. Turns out he flies both a Phantom 4 and an Inspire...has a business doing videos for Real Estate folks. Super nice. Said to just call him anytime I wanted to fly anywhere in or near the Class D. Local is definitely the way to go.
