Hello all, we are in the market for a drone to use while on the boat. Trying to wrap my head around all the scenarios before I send a $2k drone swimming lol.

So, when we are on the boat and fly the drone we will push the distance limits on flying it away from the boat. if 'something' happens and the drone decides to come back home..... and the boat has moved from where the drone was launched....

Is there any way to have home be movable? Basically a transmitter or beacon of some sort that would be attached to the boat, so when the drone decided to come home it would come to the moving target.

The remote will be on the boat as well, so maybe instead of home it could just come to the remote?

In the app you have the option of resetting the home point to either the current location of the drone or the current location of your phone/controller. As long as your phone (or whatever device you have attached to your controller) has GPS, you can periodically update the home position to your phone/device position.

Here are a few things you can do:

1) If flying with a mobile device that contains a GPS receiver, you can manually reset the home point to your current location each time the boat moves. You'll need to do this each time you move since the home point cannot be automatically reset each time you move.

2) You can set the "Remote Controller Signal Lost" setting to "Hover". If the remote controller disconnects from the drone for some reason, you can then man the boat toward the drone until the signal reconnects. If your not able to get the signal to reconnect or you cannot make it to the drone before the battery reaches the critically low level, it will auto land at its current location.

It would be better to not push the distance limits when taking off from a moving boat. If you choose to do so anyhow, just be aware that you could lose your drone if something does not go as planned. Maybe pick up some 3rd party insurance that covers a lost drone just in case.

Your flight controller will be watching the battery level and calculating when it is getting close to just enough battery to return to the home point.
That's potentially a big problem when your boat is moving if you leave the original home point and the most serious "something" you will be concerned about..

There is no moving target home point but you can reset the home point to the drone's or the controller's current location.

Boats and drones do not play well, you really want to hand fly it and NOT use the RTH function
