First MA2 crash...a bad one and I am baffled.

Hot day in southern Florida today with 10mph winds. 70% battery and I was flying my drone straight up and at 500' it suddenly flipped, started spinning and crashed hard bending the left forward engine support. When I looked at the display I have a ESC Error 30085 message. Drone is about 18 months old but I have only flown it about 10 times. Just send it in for repair and eat the bill? Is there a way to determine the cause of the failure? Thank you for your time.

Im thinking most likely the Prop came loose . Its any easy mistake to make but they will detail it down for you .

Is there a way to determine the cause of the failure?

Go to DJI Flight Log Viewer | Phantom Help
Follow the instructions there to upload your flight record from your phone or tablet.
That will give you a detailed report of the flight.
Come back and post a link to the report it gives you.

Ummm, 400 Ft AGL altitude limit. And in most of Florida, MSL & AGL are pretty close to each other.

Greetings welcome to the forum! I'm surprised you only got "bending the left forward engine support" from a fall at 500 feet.
