All righty, then, let me ask this again: if you have a variable aperture, do you need ND filters? Don’t they serve the same function?

To maintain the “correct” shutter speed for video in bright conditions. For images, to add the effect of blur

If the camera has a variable aperture, doesn't that do the trick?

I can still see use for ND filters on a variable aperture camera to control depth-of-field, but don't seem useful for adjusting shutter speed with a dynamic aperture.
