Growing up a sting kite was our flying machine.

The great thing about kites is that they incorporated built-in state-of-the-art dual hand controllers, whereas today modern flying machines require a separate expensive controller. Oh well, technology marches backwards.

If you havent done it, you should take the TRUST test and keep a copy with you when you fly.

Get your FAA TRUST Certificate of Completion to legally fly drones for recreational reasons in the United States.
