Phantom Rain - 26 minutes in the Rain ! Mavic 2 Series

Interesting that the whole discussion is about the drone being protected from rain and no one thinks about what it does to the camera/gimbal. I'm sure there are people who want to fly and not just hover over their balcony.
Once water gets into the camera/lens it is toast. I may be wrong but I'm not gonna check it out.

We hover so we can film the drone in the Rain, we know that the hover is much harder on drone than flying in the rain.
So once we have had our fill of that , and getting some good slow motion will be waiting on the next big storm to fly it in .


As far as the Gimbal and The Camera , notice how we tested it on the Phantom 4 Pro using the Phantom 4 Rescue Jacket , we will be testing it out on the Mavic 2 the same when the Glaciers melt.

We expect arround 130 days of Rain this year so like the Phantom will be flying them side my side this year , based on the Phantom camera and gimbal , the Mavic 2 setup was already designed to Negotiate weather , we just improved upon it .

Notice how we tested the Phantom 4 by stopping it from sinking and testing out the camera and the gimbal. We also tested the drone crashing into the water , fresh water only.

This gives us an idea as to how much rain and how hard a rain the drone should be able to get thru if used in a storm with the Wet Suit.
So we had close to 1000 posts last year for the phantom, you can expect a lot more for the Mavic 2 as we are just in the pre release phase .

We have the Mavic Pro Wet Suit finished , but I cannot release it until we have an actual Rain storm to test it in.

Pouring glasses of water over it is not the same as actual rain pouring down and hovering in it .

Once it gets past the 26 minute hover test , than we will feel comfortable releasing it.

The 26 minute hover test is brutal , much harder on the drone than flying it . so its coming.

No one even int'l has invoked superior solution rain all weather flying capabilities: enter "moisture separator" and "cyclone separator principle" which may be applied boasting uncomparable weight reduction of contemporary attempts.
Has any one answered question how prevent water vapor entry cpu gpu heat exchanger forced convection cooling? Water vapor will entrain conduit designed intake heat exchanger and ejection discharge waste heat mixture water vapor?

We never planned on making the Wet Suit for any of the Mavics .

The Mavics were already so well engineered for all weather flying, we did not consider it until we got caught in the Rain and water had gotten into the Battery compartment after just 4 minutes of flying.

This was so disappointing , and alarming so in order to keep up with the Phantom 4 Pro flying in the Rain we decided to apply all the concepts that worked on the Phantom 4 Pro Wet Suit to the Mavic 2 and get it up to speed.

Besides increasing its ability to fly in extreme weather , the Mavic 2 Wet Suit has some nice added Features including making it more secure for catching the drone, and protecting the Props from sand , debris .

The Wet Suit also protect the Bottom sensors and helps maintain the overall fit and finish.
We kept the Design Value to a minimal amount and thus the Wet Suit weighs 0.4 ounces

None of the Design characteristics of the Mavic 2 were changed just enhanced.

HOVER POSITION : We test the drones in the HOVER position as this is the most critical and harsh position for the drone to take on water in the Battery as this is the one of the weakest links in the Mavic Drones.

We get asked alot why we would anyone want to fly in the rain ?

There is only 1 answer : Rain happens and it can ruin your day, and the Mavic 2 Wet Suits provide you the very best chance of getting thu it unscathed.

There is no Guarantee: its not a submarine , its just your best line of defense to fly in the cold, rain, snow , hail. add the fact the Neoprene offers a secure grip is a much needed safety feature

I would not consider flying any Mavic in the rain. Whether it's the Air, Mavic Pro or Mavic 2. They are not by any means even water resistant. Maybe the next Gen Phantom will have that capability.......we'll see.

PR: I get that it wouldn't work on the black due to the color combo but HOW did you get that emblem in the neoprene? It almost looks like you did it with a branding iron.

Oh, trust me it's been discussed before. What happens is, these threads get created advertising/promoting the product, then people naturally start asking the obvious questions, OP then responds by saying something along the lines as you know nothing - how dare you question my product, I've sold thousands of these.

Then people respond in utter bewilderment, it then turns into an argument, the thread gets locked/closed, OP then starts a new thread under another title and then the cycle repeats itself.

The only thing I'm confused about is, how OP gets the title of "Approved Vendor" It really makes a mockery of the system and in turn makes one question the trustworthiness of an "Approved Vendor" 99% of which I believe to be honest and trustworthy guys selling decent products and services. But like they say, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole barrel...

Here in Ohio it rains close to 130 days a year, , that 130 days for those that make money with there drone , they make zero. Its a tool for those that need to fly , and its nice to have when you do get caught in a shower without having to panic.

Also I'm thinking about adding spring system that is attached to the case and ti the arms that is trigger released that will enable arm retraction in case of loosing control and crashing. Do you see any possible way of achieving this or even if this could be functional?

The Wet Suit is only designed for Extreme Weather Flying, it will not aid in crash protection. Seeing that the camera is the most expensive part of the drone < i dont see know if just saving the legs of the drone is worth the function. Interesting ideas.

hmmm. TY on your response. Gotta think about this some more it seems But I think it's doable. If I come up with the design for crash resistand mavic 2 case I will mesage you if you are interested. Maybe we can figure something out. Rain protection, on it's own, is nice enough, but if we can incorporate some rugged shielding for the drone all the better.
