I’m using DJI Enterprise thermal drones for landscape and environmental imaging, and I’m running into a major limitation with thermal palettes.
At the moment, palettes are always dynamically auto-scaled per image or video frame: the coldest detected pixel is mapped to the lowest palette color, and the hottest to the highest. This means the same temperature appears in different colors depending on scene content.
Even when upper and lower temperature limits are set, the color grading still shifts dynamically. A frame with 20–25 °C ends up using the full blue-to-red range, which looks dramatic but makes visual comparison meaningless.
For environmental monitoring, landscape analysis, research, and time-series comparison, this is a serious limitation. A fixed temperature-to-color mapping (where the same temperature always has the same color) is essential for consistent interpretation and communication.
A simple toggle between:
Are others experiencing the same issue? Has DJI commented on whether this could be added?
I attach a link to a video that we just published, where you see that we also use the thermal video for awareness raising. People love it:

- Dynamic auto-scaling (current behavior)
- Fixed palette scaling (user-defined min/max)
