we had a simmilar issue with ups, we have special meds delivered from vancouver shildrens hospital to our home via ups, we sign for it and all is well, well one time ups lost it and we imidietaly contacted childrens hospital for a replacement as our child needed the special meds, they would not ship it until ups fully disclosed and fully admitted to losing the first one which took days,,,,,, we were livid to say the least,,,, they delayed and delayed to not admit losing the package, i fully agree with the op, shipping is not his concern, dji can argue and fight with the company, he should be sent a new machine right away,,,,,
 
His fault or not, he opted to take responsibility for the damage so no reason to hate on him. It is curious to all of us though as to what happened as it could happen to us too.
In our simulations, note that his launch point was higher than or close to his incident point.

I'm glad it has been verified that even during critical battery landing, you can force the AC to stay up.
 
Ive just read all the replies to your first post OP and im a bit thrown back by the replys you've had.
I joined this forum for help and advice and it seems you get the opposite.

1. knowhere on you post have you stood there and said you don't feel like the emergency landing was your fault so I don't know why people are bringing it up.
2. not just drone related but if you bought anything on the web and it didn't appear im sure 99% of people would be straight on the phone asking where their product was. Ive has numerous times where things have been "lost in transit" and had a new product dispatched. This is what insurance policies are for.

hope it all works out for you and I hope some of the members on here give you a break because im sure they wouldn't be much different if it was happening to them.
 
When you said in the OP "sounded the landing tones", what did you mean by that? There is no aircraft - initiated landing event in the log.

Having said that, when the aircraft passed backwards over the rotunda thing, vision altitude was recorded at less than 2ft. Maybe the craft thought it had touched the ground and cut motor power, or maybe it thought it had crashed. Still a bit odd that there's nothing in the log to signify either of those speculated events...

EDIT: At 16' 57.6" there is downward throttle being applied while vision altitude goes from 3.6ft to 1.2ft, perhaps the function that controls down throttle shutting down the motors upon landing is set way too sensitive internally?

A good warning to the rest of us; don't drop the aircraft to within ~ 5ft above an object if you don't intend to land on it :p
 
M2 is supposed to check if landing site is suitable to land. If not, it will ask you to confirm in the app. Perhaps a screen record capture of the flight playback?
By the way, why does the Go flight playback not show notices again when you rewind and play back a section of flight?

My controller was started to beep the landing tones, the screen had no notification of landing.

A good warning to the rest of us; don't drop the aircraft to within ~ 5ft above an object if you don't intend to land on it :p
YES!!! ...and don't ever trust obstacle avoidance!
 
I had a similar case here in Australia. I bought an inspire controller and a heap of accessories from a supplier in the U.S.
it was tracked as delivered by Australia Post and signed for. I never received the package. After weeks of back and forth with Australia Post I was able to show they where in the wrong. When you sign one of the digital scanners it records a gps point. I was only able to force them to show me this data by applying for it under the freedom of information act here in Australia. Yes this took weeks and weeks but I wasn’t giving up on nearly $2000 parcel that they were claiming I had. Once I had all of the information it showed that it was not delivered at my address, and that the signature was a misspelling of my name. Australia Post finally admitted they were in the wrong.
But then they tell me that as I never received the parcel, I couldn’t make the claim. It had to come from the sender and he would be compensated and then repay me or resend. At this stage I find I’ve been dealing with someone in the states that was doing some bad business over there. I can’t remember the name at the moment but he was down south and “specialising” in longrange mods to controllers. So after a tonne of complaints from locals, he is no longer talking to anyone. I finally get a hold of him and explain that he needed to make a claim and repay me. I couldn’t give a toss. He had his money and there was no incentive for him to help me out (other than some personal integrity which he didn’t have)
Australia Post were no bloody help at all. I don’t understand why Aust Post couldn’t go to where they delivered it and take action there, or, as I had proof of payment, simply compensate me.

Well at least that solves the obstacle avoidance question; you don't get side avoidance warnings in normal flight modes, and that spire thing was right on the edge of the blind spot in the rear sensors...

At that point, full down throttle was applied which, at that height off the ground, the FC interpreted as a command to land and shut down. Which it then did.

Question, once a landing sequence is initiated, can it be aborted? Is there a "point of no return"?
 
Okay, let's take the "evil DJI" out of the equation. If I ship you a package through UPS and UPS loses it, you all believe that I'm obligated to send you another one. Is that a fair assessment of your position? Regardless of any other circumstances? Okay.

As I've said, I'm strictly interested in your opinions. I've already checked the "law" in the matter and read DJI's policy. As far as I can tell, DJI isn't legally, contractually, or as a matter of policy obligated to do anything in these situations. I'm sure that they will and I'm sure that they do. I was just honestly curious as to your perception of entitlement or DJI's obligation. As I've said, this discussion has no bearing on your situation. It will neither help nor hinder your situation. You are venting and perhaps looking for shoulders to cry on, some agree, some don't but in the end it really doesn't matter. Things will play out as they will regardless of this forum's opinion. I have had two shipments from B&H get lost; FexEx. They both stopped at Label Created or something like that. I had to wait until the expected arrival day passed before B&H would even look into it. They sent replacements after that but it sure was frustrating. I never found out what happened to the originals. OP, I feel your pain.
 
Good question, never had to. Though low battery landing can be aborted.

I'm going to run some tests and see out of curiosity. I've already tried to duplicate this situation on some rooftops without success. I took off 100' above the ground and skimmed along it at 3-5'. I then tried it along a another rooftop of similar height. My drone never tried to land or misbehave in any way. I'm still not prepared to state that it's impossible but I can't get it to do it.

On a lighter note, who's also reminded of the scene from Die Hard 2 where they set the landing assist to a value lower than ground level?
 
And to offer up another target - I agree with the OP that the problem is between DJI and UPS and that DJI should immediately send out a replacement.

DJI should also look into the initial cause. For the M2 to announce it is landing in a non-suitable spot and not respond to controls to cancel sure sounds like a bug to me. It would probably take several similar occurrences before they admit their problem but then should refund the charges to the OP (and the rest) and update Refresh to show no uses.
