Should it be possible to disable sensors AFTER getting a low battery warning? I was unable to do so but had no problem earlier, before a low battery warning.

You should be able to disable the sensors anytime mid-flight.

What seemed to prevent you from disabling them?

The slider on the controller would not disable the sensors. After changing the battery, it again worked fine (without a low battery earning).

Were you in sport mode? If you were in sport mode, the sensors were already disabled.
