I agree. When politics infiltrate into forums like these, suddenly it isn't a forum discussing drone stuff, it is talking about politicians and turns the whole forum into an argument- festered place.

here we are...about 6 weeks away from an actual ban with the very real possibility it will include some form of retroactive ban.

Can't agree. In my opinion that vote by the FCC has as much possibility of being real as the Biden administration's Disinformation Governance Board to control speech. Power is often intoxicating, sadly particularly for those that seek it.

Any attempt to retroactively revoke an approval would be immediately challenged in court, and it's near certain there would be a stay issued forcing the Feds to provide concrete justification.

The first challenge will be if the FCC even has the authority to grant itself such power, which is extremely dubious. Then, there is the "takings clause" of the USC, which makes it rather difficult for the government to take such actions without a compelling public or state interest, and if so, must compensate those affected.

Simply asserting that Chinese drones are a security threat doesn't meet that requirement. In fact, perhaps it would be good for the FCC to actually overreach with this decision, as the Feds would then finally have to perform the security audit that they refuse to do (in my opinion because doing so would destroy the threat claim).

There literally has been no evidence provided to justify the US Customs embargo based on the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Zero. Nothing. Nor is there any evidence that our DJI drones are a threat to national security and are reporting back to the CCCP mothership.

I interpreted the post as calling the idea that the Chinese more trustworthy than the current US administration as laughable. I agree its ridiculous.

Try and get past your hatred of Trump. There are many, many more people involved in an administration than just the POTUS, the majority career employees, making decisions and actions every day based on the laws of the land, not the personality of the President. The idea that all these thousands suddenly became untrustworthy because of a political change is naive at best.

Similarly, the idea that the Chinese, which would like nothing more than to see America crash and burn are more trustworthy is comic.

I think it's important to distinguish between political policy and political partisanship.

The former can be very relevant to drones, and fruitful for discussion. The latter is childish trash, but some don't have the self-control to restrain themselves and respect the purpose of the venue.

Sadly, the latter seems to be mostly what rears it's head here politically. I've politely asked some of these people in other threads to pull back, and predictably rather than reflect and listen to their better angels, I was attacked. Par for the course.

If the Chinese wanted to see America crash and burn, all they need to do is turn their cargo ships around and refuse to export anything to the US. Our economy would collapse in a few months. The US accounts for less than 15% of China's total trade. They could take the hit. We could not. China has stated more than once, that they would prefer a relationship based on mutual respect.

ok...but if you agree or not, the reality is the FCC has granted itself the power to retroactively cancel licenses. You may think it won't happen and that the courts would intervene, but the last 10 months have shown that the courts very often don't have any lasting intervention applied to federal over-reach under Trump

besides that, the rest of my post stands. 18 months ago the idea that DJI was going to be banned was dismissed. But we're a month away from it happening

There's an enormous difference between some ruling by a Federal commission and a law passed by Congress.

When Congress passes legislation granting the FCC the power to retroactively revoke certifications, I'll be concerned (very). Until then, like I said earlier it's nothing more than political BS like Biden's Disinformation Governance Board that amounts to all-too-typical power drunkenness.

It's why, thankfully, we have checks and balances. And over my lifetime, including during the last and current administrations, seem to work pretty well, even when I disagree with the outcome.

One voter's Baby Caligulia is another's policy savior. It's a shame that some can't understand and accept this, be civil, and disagree agreeably. I'm not a fan at all of Trump's style, and think it has diminished our body politic. In equal measure, I find the rhetoric his opposition, like Pritzger, Pelosi, Newsom, et. al. to be every bit as damaging and worthy of condemnation.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see how statesmanlike John Fetterman has become. Sadly, too many of the electorate want an MMA brawl rather than sober, mature governance, so the Trumps and Pritzgers get elected, and the Fettermans get attacked.

I agree. The talk we hear now about what the government *can't* do is the same talk we heard last year about...what the government can't do. Yet...they do. And they will. Some of us have seen this game before, we know the game plan. So we know what work and what doesn't work. *Nobody* in the executive branch asks the legislative branch for *nothing* period. Those days are over (for now). Every single federal employees obeys an executive order and if not, they resign (like they should).

Again, this is the same talk we heard a year or more ago about a ban and know we have it....a ban. Now we're discussing revocations and a year from now....we'll be revoked. And then the discussion will center around grounding and bricking...and eventually confiscation. And the talk will be "the government can't confiscate my drone...."

Being two steps behind is not a winning strategy.

Why lock someone up if you can indict them on trumped-up charges and drive them into bankruptcy because they're obliged to spend a fortune to defend themselves?

There are no more checks and balances. There is no accountability.

Yes, that is exactly what they said. I am always shocked to read how many people here hate America on this forum. I love my DJI drones but that does not transfer into hate for America.

You do realize there is a difference between the country USA and it's administration, don't you? Many millions of Americans love their country but hate it's administration. Even the founding fathers knew to never trust their government.

I'm a new guy here so take what I say with a grain of salt, I guess.

Whether China is using info gathered from DJI drones or not, there are far worse violators than DJI out there doing far worse things on our very own soil on behalf of the CCP and receiving a fraction of the attention. As a relative newbie to the hobby, I find it actually funny that they are reflexively moving to ban DJI yet you can go on Amazon right now and buy any number of Chinese drones (or millions of other electronic items) made by God-knows-who in China that send God-knows-what data back to the CCP. For real.

I believe DJI is nothing more than the fall guy here. This "ban" action is a political example to other CCP ne'er-do-wells who might be so inclined. It means nothing to the people calling the shots that it's a totally baseless and fruitless effort. It sends a message at the expense of a Chinese corporation and that's deemed an acceptable trade off.

The problem those in Congress are willfully ignorant of is that so many private individuals, public safety, public works, etc. agencies currently use DJI equipment that this action will end up placing an undue burden on Americans. It doesn't matter to them because the "example" must be set. It's a shame but...it's politics.

What I don't understand is how the President gets involved in this conversation in this forum. This is all the brainchild of a few hyper-focused, out of touch members in Congress and it gained way too much traction last year when the New Jersey drone invasion happened. Even when Biden let that spy balloon float all over the country I still didn't question his administration's trustworthiness. I found them incompetent but I still trusted them more than China. I mean come on. If this is how this forum is, I'm not going to be here long.
