New to Drones these past few months and just decided to Join your Forum. I was introduced by my wife's son, It demonstrated his Mini 2 two months ago on our boat with an orbit around it.

I was impressed and decided to look into the DJI family of drones. Have since bought a Mini 3 and then upgraded to a Mini 3 Pro with the RC and just loved it. Watched numerous YouTube videos and also got a Mavic 3 Classic but like the Mini 3 I decided to upgrade to the Mavic 3 Pro and really am glad that I did. I enjoy the ability to change the view point with the 70mm camera without flying closer to my subject.

I can see why DJI added this focal length to the new Air 3.

Thanks to all that contribute their work and experiences to the forum.

I plan to introduce my photography forum some of my work, Ugly Hedgehog -- Photography Forum.

I have registered my Mavic 3 Pro and gotten my TRUST certificate and will likely take some classes to prep for taking the License exam in the near future although I do not expect to ever work or sell my video or photos.

You have certainly jumped in with both feet and even though you have a lot of Drones, you are still a newbie…

As a New Drone Pilot, there are a couple of Legal Things you may need to do…

You have your TRUST Certificate. You have registered your Mavic 3 Pro, but the Mavic 3 Classic is also required to be registered and your Mini 3s if you use the big batteries… But you are in luck, since you have already registered one of your drones, you can register all of your drones under your one Recreational Flyer Registration, there is no extra charge for the Rec Flyer, as the registration is on you, not your drones…

But if you do get your Part 107 License, then each and every drone that you use in your business will need its own registration, but that's another day…

Link to the FAADroneZone (Optional Registration for Drones under 250-Grams…)

If you are considering acquiring your Part 107 License, here is a link to get you going…

Since you live in Georgia, there are specific laws and rules for you to follow, please check the link below for all the Rules and Laws that are in effect in your neck of the woods and it also links you to some of the Best Places to Fly in your area… Also, if you travel on vacation, visit friends, and relatives in other parts of the country, check back here so you do not run afoul of the law.

Even if you have flown Drones before, here is some Good Old Fashion Advice…

You paid a lot of money for that Drone, put your phone number on it. If your drone gets lost or stuck in a tree and it finally comes down when you are not around, give the finders an opportunity to contact you so it can be returned.

Now, for the Fun Part, But do not let the excitement of the moment get the best of you. When you are going out to fly, do it slowly and deliberately. Get used to a set procedure and even practice it.

There are so many things I could write but these are the highlights that I feel need mentioning.

Plug in your phone/tablet into your controller; turn on the Controller and DJI Fly App (if it does not start on its own…). On the Drone, open the front legs, then open the back legs, then remove the Gimbal Cover.

The Gimbal is the most delicate item on the Drone and banging or bumping can damage it. I also fastened a short "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to the cover so it's more noticeable and I do not forget to remove it…

Turn on the drone and watch it come to "life." Watching the Gimbal go through its self-check is almost like watching a puppy or kitten opening its eyes for the first time…

Place the drone down (preferably on a Landing Pad) while it finishes its self-test (collecting satellites, etc…).

Check your battery status (Phone, Drone, and Controller), check the Signal Strength, by now the Controller should have reported it updated the Home Point.

Lift off, 6- feet (2-meters) or so, hover a bit, check the controls (move the drone a bit forward, back, left, right, yaw left and right). By now, your Controller will probably report again, Home point Updated.

If you go out in a rush and race thru your start up and take off before the drone has finished it prep, it may update its Home Point over that pond or that old tree you are flying over and in your excitement, you'll fly the drone long past it Low Battery point and when it engages Return to Home and lands in the pond or in a tree; it will be all on you…

Now go have fun, learn to fly the drone by sight before you try to fly it out a distance depending on the video feed, FPV.

I would also advise you to use YouTube and watch a lot of the Videos on flying and setting up the Drone. When it is too dark, too cold, or too wet, you can "fly it vicariously" through YouTube. Also watch some of the Blooper Drone Videos and learn how not to fly your "New Baby."

Below is the links to all of the downloads offered by DJI for all your drones, including the User Manuals.

After you read the Manual, read it again, you will be surprised what you missed the first time and you will be better prepared for that first "scary moment…"

Fly On and Fly Safe…
Thanks for the welcome LoundThunder. I am somewhat familiar with the great state of Virginia, spent a year and a half in Annapolis and having lived and worked in Alexandria for over a year. I was in Gaithersburg on 9/11 and will never forget that. You've got great beaches and just lovely countryside.

I no longer have the Mini 3 or the Mavic 3 Classic so I will not be registering them, will try and make that clearer in my future post that I upgraded to the Mini 3 Pro and the Mavic 3 Pro AND sold off the Mini 3 and Mavic 3 Classic.

I agree that I am a Newbie and have said as much in my introduction, I fly for recreation, education of myself and general satisfaction of learning new things. I read manuals, I have as you suggest, watched many YouTube videos of reviews (to do due diligence), instructional videos (for the obvious reasons) and professionally prepared videos just to see the great landscapes presented.

I am a big fan of photography and have a similar investment in Canon camera equipment with no intention of professional work associated with my efforts.

I am an engineer by education and have traveled extensively in my professional work to Canada, Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. This has inspired me to be able to take better pictures and "see" the world from the vantage point only a drone can provide.

Up until recently I was not aware that the quality of equipment (drones) was so widely available at price points that were within my reach. So, I am very excited to join you and the other members of this community and forum in embracing this opportunity.

Thanks for all your advice and suggestions, I am well on my way already in following the path that it suggests.

best regards.

Welcome!
I first was going to post your addicted. :)
