Looking for clarification re ipad/cellular

I did a flight yesterday and forgot to turn on the hotspot on my phone to connect to my iPad Air, the map was just blank yet showed the gps of the drone, but nothing else. When I got home and reviewed the flight, the Ipad connect to my home wifi showed the detail. So its just a case of remembering to turn on hotspot, but it will work without the a wifi connect on the ipad, but shows in the app that the it has setup a wifi connection with the drone.

Cool. There would have been a blank on the AP screen where the map should have been. Was the controller location shown on the blank map as a spot and is it correctly plotted in the flight log?
