New to flying drone

Would like to take drone to desert to film motocross. No cell service. I have an IOS. Do I have to have gps to film? Do I have to have a map? I know I can cache a map of the area, and from what I understand correctly, if my phone turns off, the map disappears? Can the drone calibrate without wifi? Thanks im advance!

Welcome to Mavic Pilots from Dayton Ohio! You should be able to get GPS anywhere in the US (except inside some buildings). You don't have to have the map to fly. When the map is cached it shouldn't disappear when the phone turns off. Yes all DJI drones can be calibrated without WiFi. Fly safe and have fun!
