Bought and Tested the DJI RC Plus on Ebay that claims to work with the Mavic series of Drones. Guess What? IT DOES WORK! I'll tell you why.

For those that have recently purchased one of these controllers for your Mavic 3, This might be a dumb question: you say the R1, R2, R3, C3 buttons don’t work, but what about the L1, L2, L3 and other scroll wheel?
The top buttons are for the Matrice models. You can't reassign them as you are correct. It's just a huge RC Pro. The extra scroll wheel doesn't work for the same reason.
I feel like the answer is that it doesn’t work as this controller is essentially a RC pro controller, but I just wanted to confirm.
Confirmed
I ordered one, but mainly because I heard it works with air 2s and DroneLink and it’s got a bigger screen and better battery life. It’s essentially an RC Pro with a lower price tag and a bigger body.
Exactly

You need the firmware 03.01.0600 you can download this from drone-hack, to install that i think you must go to System, go to Android Version No, click 10 times there and than open a news directory, Developer option. I think there you must adjust that it is allow to goto bootsection. But i'm not sure how to adjust and load the firmware. Maybe same body now the Android 10 System and can help? Sorry for my english🤷‍♂️

I don't know why you people are messing around with all those dji remotes when there is a simple way. Use the dji rc-n1 controller with the ipad mini 6 that works just great. Buy a 256gb with wi/fi and cellular, you don't have to hook up the cellular part but you still get GPS and who wants some calling you in the middle of your flight. Tablet mount is only $10 on amazon thats works just as great as you cell phone just alot bigger screen.

Been there done that! I salute your creativity but personally I prefer the Plus controller.

Above is my old rig, a 12.9" iPad Pro with the NS1 controller. I was an evangelist for that method for a long time. Super love the giant screen as you say. And I still think it's a better method than the RC, possibly than the RC Pro, and definitely better than using a phone. But the Plus is hard to beat.

- every iPad screen I've ever seen is waaaay less bright than the Plus controller. No comparison, I was constantly having to shade my iPad. With the Plus I can see the screen perfectly in full sun. It's downright amazing. And I don't know if Apple games their screen brightness ratings but for some reason even a 1000 nit rated iPad screen is just terrible in full sun. And I disabled all the screen dimming settings that I could find.

- the iPad is one more thing to keep charged. I don't know what's up with DJI Fly but if I don't force close it, it kills the battery on my iPad. That's maybe fixable through some settings but I never found it. There were so many times that I had to cut flying short or switch to my RC because of a dead iPad. I even had my iPad die during a flight once, which was an adventure. The Plus has basically infinite flight time since it has hot swappable $60 batteries that I think each have more capacity than the batteries in the ns1.

- The USB cable is annoying and one more thing to stress about not forgetting. One more thing to go wrong.

- You can't see the controls while you're flying since the iPad is in front of the controls. I got used to that and practiced to make it easier, but still, it's nice to see the controls.

- the sticks and all the controls are waaaay better on the Plus than the NS1. Everything about the NS1 feels like a toy compared to the Plus. Even everything on the Pro feels like a toy compared to the Plus.

- and the NS1 controller only has one dial, so you can't simultaneously control both camera tilt and zoom. It's nice to be able to work both those at the same time.

- if I need a bigger screen with the Plus I can use the HDMI out or connect a USB C monitor. Neither of which are options with the NS1.

- the Plus is waterproof... That means dust proof and generally super tough. Remember when they used to call things "ruggedized"? This thing is rugged.

- transporting the NS1 and the tablet holder is annoying. It's doable, but sometimes I wouldn't disassemble everything and it broke on me a couple of times. I went through 3 of the tablet holders, $25 each. Not the end of the world but annoying.

- with the Plus there's no assembly or disassembly time. I just open the clamshell cover and fire it up. When I'm done I close the clamshell and stick it in a bag. I don't even need to remove the joysticks.

That's my Plus controller on the left and my Mavic 3 Pro on the right.

- and at $600 the Plus is super cheap anyway

And really the screen size of the Plus is fine for me, and I'm an evangelist for large screens. But of course if I need to I can always fire up that NS1 and the iPad Pro, takes just a few seconds to switch over. And assuming someone already has an iPad I agree, that's an excellent method and is dirt cheap. It's better than the RC or even the RC Pro, but the Plus has them both beat by a lot in my opinion. The Plus is an absolutely amazing controller.

That's right,
You are 100% right! Everything else is a temporary solution. Unpack it, switch it on and off you go. With the additional battery you can operate the controller for 7 hours!

Just got my RC plus for my Mavic 3 pro but it will not pair to the drone. Any suggestions?

That's weird. Did you press the button on the drone for 3+ seconds until it started beeping in pairing mode and all that?

And I know it sounds weird but sometimes I've had issues where a controller wouldn't pair to the drone because the drone was too close, so it's worth trying different positions. Get like 10 feet away from the drone, worth a shot.

The drone is definitely entering pairing mode. But I could try getting further away. I still wonder what that prompt means about switching firmwares, I click cancel but maybe I should hit yes?

When you turn on the controller, do you choose Mavic 3 Pro from the menu? That's why you're being prompted to switch firmware.

Yes. I choose mavic 3 pro from the menu of drones in the fly app. Should I say confirm? I am not connected to internet so I can’t see how it could download an update to the firmware.
Yes, each drone has a different operating firmware. If you had a Mavic 3 Classic like me, you would choose that drone and you'd get a popup saying to switch firmware.

Good point, that is indeed confusing. I have to click ok to the prompt that says "Firmware version inconsistent,. Update firmware before use" when I switch between my Mavic 3 Pro and Mini 3 Pro.

I have to do that when using the RC or RC Pro too. That's different than updating the firmware on the controller, it's really just switching modes, I don't know why DJI calls it that. But it's safe to do for us.

You will have no problem with updating the fly app. Or the drone firmware which you already did.

You cannot except the one that says update controller firmware

Enjoy these are awesome controllers!
