Free training for drone pilots on search/rescue techniques on Mar 30

We're firming up an agenda. Here's what we have so far:
  • [Classroom] Briefing - Introduction to drone support for SAR operations
  • [Classroom] Introduction to Litchi software
  • [Classroom] Preplanning a waypoint flight with points of interest
  • [Outside] Demo Flying the preplanned flight with live video feed
  • [Outside] Demo of the Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual with thermal (live video feed)
  • [Outside] Practical exercises with your own drone
This will probably last from 9 AM until around 3 PM.

the schedule looks great. I will not be able to make it. too far.

I will ask around here, in Indianapolis to see if anyone offer something like that here. I know a few emergency personnel (cops, firemen, emts) state and local city.

We might be willing to come up there if someone can organize a location and round up enough pilots to make it worthwhile. If so, we'd train on both Sat and Sun with Sun dedicated to Grid Searches.

I will see if I can get some individuals.

This is already discussed in a thread under the Southeast region, but I suspect many would never bother to read it because they either don't live in the SE or because of the thread title. DSAR is offering free training on search/rescue techniques to drone pilots on Sat Mar 30 at 9 AM at the following location near the Alabama/Georgia state line:

Mentone Community Church
90 Summerville Rd
Mentone, Alabama 35984

The church is on Lookout Mountain near the Alabama/Georgia state line border. This session will include an introduction to drone support for SAR operations. The topics in this intro include: what you need to know, what skills you need, what you need to consider and plan for, keys to success, training, working with onsite incident command structures, coordination and ops with ground search teams, effective use of your drone, waypoint flights, exploratory flights, 3rd party observers, safety.... and other subjects.

On the 30th we will specifically focus on advanced waypoint planning/execution with points-of-interest (POIs.) Training will occur rain or shine. If it rains, we obviously stay indoors. You will have an opportunity to plan a waypoint mission with POIs on your phone/tablet, and then (weather permitting) fly it with your own drone.

To get the most out of the training, it is recommended you purchase and download the Litchi app to your phone/tablet in advance.

All pilots, regardless of skill or experience level are welcome. Bring your drone.
can you please add me to your calendar. If I cannot get enough individuals here in Indianapolis together in one area or site, then I will be there in march.

I am kind of hoping that I can get enough individuals here in Indianapolis together (somewhere)...kind of late in the day right now. but I will reach out to a couple of organizations/individuals in the next few days

Done. You're on the list.

We formalized and articulated our philosophy on the web site:

"At DSAR we seek to be a free resource for all drone pilots. We recognize (1) the value of synergy, (2) that no single person has all the answers and all knowledge, and (3) that drone technology is constantly advancing at light speed. Thus, we believe freely pooling our collective experience, wisdom and knowledge benefits everyone."

I think around 10 of the 20 slots are spoken for. FYI. We will be giving the following cool cap to the male (and female pilot if one shows up) that travels the furthest to come to training. :)

I will have my spotter with me for the trip but she is NOT a pilot.

Yeah, Rob said he was bringing his wife.

Do you mean the Mentone area? I'm from Huntsville, 2 hours west of Mentone.

Yeah, I believe he lives near or in the Mentone area. Don't know why but I was thinking you lived in that area also.

Too far for me but I would travel locally to any training similar to this!!

Offer those caps for sale - you'll make whatever you need for support of DSAR!!!

Thank you and fly safe!!

In fact, a Supervisor of EMS and a Sheriffs Office in VA asked if we could come up to train there provided he could muster enough pilots to make it worthwhile. Thunderdrones and I agreed it may be possible for the two of us to go up there this summer and train them on a Sat and Sun. We're in the process of working with him to see if it can happen.

The same thing may be true for Indianapolis if someone is willing to take the bull to organize it up there.

Where in Va is that?

Wait until you see the final design. The company I ordered it from tweaked it for me - it's awesome. If I wore a baseball cap, I'd get one.

Here's the final design of the cap. Who would buy one? They are not cheap - more than $30 apiece at cost once you include shipping. To make some money we'd have to charge at least $40. Remember that whomever comes the furthest for training gets one FREE. Applies to both male and female pilots.

$40 for a baseball cap is ridiculous.

$40 or even a $50 donation to "DSAR" and receive a free cap is a lot more tasteful.

It's all in how it is presented. jes my .o2
