Both has a GPS, the SC and M2P.
Can someone explain which one serves what purpose, what happens if either one is inop, does one have a priority over the other one?

The only GPS receiver that matters (for almost all flight functions) is the one in the drone.
Knowing the GPS location of the display unit is no use for anything except:
Follow-me flight (but Active Track does the job better without needing GPS
Resetting the home point to the current location of the controller (only used for flying from a moving car or boat and not really needed then anyway)
But the location of the drone is very important information at all times.
They function independently. If one is unavailable, the other does not step in and provide the needed GPS data. You just won't be able to use any functions that require GPS data from the GPS receiver that is currently unavailable.
