I'm looking to get into a DJI drone, probably an Air, so shopping around.
I found a cheap 2S online but it's account is locked though I have been given the serial number.
Is there a way I can contact the account holder?
If, as I suspect, the drone is stolen, I could hopefully reunite it with its original owner.
(the drone is currently for sale by a pawn shop).
If it's not stolen I'd be more than happy to make it mine!
How do I go about contacting DJI re the matter?

Hello from the Crossroads of America kazaly

I can't help you with your questions, but others may have the information you need.

Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome from the heartland MA2 317

DJI would be able to tell who last registered it, but not sure they would help you. It would be better to buy a drone that you know isn't stolen.

I wasn't going to buy it.
If I can find out who owns it though, I can either let them know where their drone is or let the local cops know if in fact DJI are willing to divulge ownership details.
I'd guess the drone has been stolen as the account has been locked in much the same way as a mobile phone can be remotely locked via its IMEI number.
What I was hoping for, is that a member here may have information on how to go about contacting DJI about this sort of thing.

Greetings kazaly, welcome to the forum from the Northern Territory.
If you’re not sure, don’t buy. I’ve only once heard of a drone being reunited with its owner in the manner you are attempting. Move on, plenty of drones out there looking for new owners. Just be careful, it can be addictive.
Regards

Welcome to the forum from the beautiful woods of Maine!
I’m not sure if there’s an easy way to find that info but I would walk away from the pawn shop myself.

Welcome from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, USA. We have a Member's Map in the Upper Right of the Title Bar. Click on "Members" and then Click on "Member's Map…" Check it out and you might find some new flying friends.

In case you do decide to go for the A2S, I've included the Download Link from DJI for all of its links…

Since you live in Australia, there are specific laws and rules for you to follow, please check to ensure these are current.

Even if you may have flown Drones before, here is some Good Old Fashion Advice…

You paid a lot of money for that Drone, put your phone number on it. If your drone gets lost or stuck in a tree and it finally comes down when you are not around, give the finders an opportunity to contact you so it can be returned.

Now, for the Fun Part, But do not let the excitement of the moment get the best of you. When you are going out to fly, do it slowly and deliberately. Get used to a set procedure and even practice it.

There are so many things I could write but these are the highlights that I feel need mentioning.

Plug in your phone/tablet into your controller; turn on the Controller and DJI Fly App (if it does not start on its own…). On the Drone, open the front legs, then open the back legs, then remove the Gimbal Cover.

The Gimbal is the most delicate item on the Drone and banging or bumping can damage it. I also fastened a short "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to the cover so it's more noticeable and I do not forget to remove it…

Turn on the drone and watch it come to "life." Watching the Gimbal go through its self-check is almost like watching a kitten or puppy opening its eyes for the first time…

Place the drone down (preferably on a Landing Pad) while it finishes its self-test (collecting satellites, etc…).

Check your battery status (Phone, Drone, and Controller), check the Signal Strength, by now the Controller should have reported it updated the Home Point.

Lift off, 4-5 feet (1-1/2 meters) or so, hover a bit, check the controls (move the drone a bit forward, back, left, right, yaw left and right). By now, your Controller will probably report again, Home point Updated.

If you go out in a rush and race thru your start up and take off before the drone has finished it prep, it may update its Home Point over that pond or that old tree you are flying over and in your excitement, you'll fly the drone long past it Low Battery point and when it engages Return to Home and lands in the pond or in a tree; it will be all on you…

Now go have fun, learn to fly the drone by sight before you try to fly it out a distance depending on the video feed, FPV.

I would also advise you to use YouTube and watch a lot of the Videos on flying and setting up the Drone. When it is too dark, too cold, or too wet, you can "fly it vicariously" through YouTube. Also watch some of the Blooper Drone Videos and learn how not to fly your "New Baby."

Below is the link to all of the downloads offered by DJI for the Mavic Air 2s, including the User Manual.

After you read the Manual, read it again, you will be surprised what you missed the first time and you will be better prepared for that first "scary moment…"

Happy Droning…

If you search our Lost and Found Sub-Forum, you will see that DJI is not the easiest entity to get that type of support from. I was on eBay and saw a listing for a Mini SE that the seller said they found while hiking, the auction even listed the serial number, I published the Ad on our web site and I even contacted DJI and asked them to contact the original owner since all of the Drones are registered by serial number to email accounts and they did, reluctantly but I do not know the outcome. The Drone did sell, but I do not know if the original owner got it…

You see, unlike your old Australian Penial Colony rules and laws, "Theft by Finding…" here in the states, it's pretty much "Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers…"

Also, buying a used DJI Drone off eBay, sight unseen, is fraught with danger, besides the possibility of a stolen drone, there is the possibility that the drone is still "bound" to the original owner's account and the drone may never be truly yours…

Search our database for more info on this subject or view various YouTube Videos for first hand accounts.

Good Luck!
