NFZ with permission - DJI says "no"

thanks blades, i've watched his video on nfz - it doesn't wotk with my firmware version - i'd have to roll back --- might try that.

You are wrong, it does not matter what DJI does, people looking to cause trouble will find a way, there are other options. DJI made these changes after purchase, which is wrong. Nobody forced me to buy DJI, however what I bought changed after the purchase. The product DID NOT have these limitations before buying!

Because the firmware update shows on the app as a red critical warning. It's not only annoying, but if you ignore this all of the time you certainly could become complacent and not notice a true, flight impacting warning.

i believe my point is valid. i have permission from the tower. i don't believe i should need permission from a private corporation to do my job with a product i purchased.

if i buy a car & drive over the speed limit --- i'll get a ticket - but my car does not, and should not regulate my speed.

You are 100% in the right, this is not DJI's place to control airspace in the entire world.

dji might WANT to see the waiver - and they MIGHT want to regulate my common sense - but what they are getting is another user modifying their product. yes, their product --- but MY property. sheeple can follow the lemmings off the cliff - i'll make my own path. (with some help from really smart people like digdat0)

one interesting thing - the v 700 firmware i downloaded installed as v 600 --- BUT --- again --- everything is working so i'm not bitching.

First, you'd be surprised how many people are using the Mavic professionally.

Second, totally disagree that it is some third party country which needs to police this. It is the role of the US to enforce US laws, not China.

This post made me laugh. Sorry, but it's true. I don't need DJI to tell me right from wrong - I use an interesting concept called "Personal Responsibility" that helps me make good decisions and not need to rely on others. DJI has played some pretty ugly games since I agreed to the terms and bought my drone, so I don't feel bad for the direction I took to make sure I never have to worry about them getting in the way again. Also, I like hearing people like you say the mavic is no good for professional video. It reduces the competition for the rest of us

How? The GEO NFZ system was present in the Mavic since day one. There have been other changes but not related to the problem at hand.
Sure we agree it's not DJI's business to take care of that, BUT the "bad faith" comments don't help anybody. In this case all the information was available before purchase, as well as the method to unlock a zone.

They were there. The reason you don't hear about people complaining about it back then is probably because us early adopters who had the very small number of units available at that time actually read what we were getting into.
Of course new zones etc have been added over time, but, that was expected since the mechanism was there and you were thus aware of it, as well as of the online page where you can check for zones before buying / flying.
All DJI machines since mid 2015 or so have had a form or another of flight restriction zones. Hard to ignore.

drone is maybe 15% of the job. i have had great success shooting indoors with the mavic - love the small footprint --- until now.

I agree, I have been using the Mavic for commercial jobs filming in retail stores and bank vaults, it's been fine with a little caution, the quality is fine IMO.

Anyone who bought a Mavic with the necessary amount of research knew that:
- It came with a system for restricting flight in some locations
- Those locations would be by nature evolving over time, some being added and some removed
- There is a place to check whether flight in a given location is allowed or not in advance
- If it is not there is a procedure to unlock it in advance.

Again we both disagree about them doing that, but you can't claim you didn't know. Not happy? Don't buy it. If you do so anyway, arrive on a job with a Mavic without having a clue about that system even existing yet... you have not done any decent research on how to do their job, so much for presenting themselves as "professionals".

There's a reason there are people and companies specialised in filming aerials with drones - unlike some random producer who has no idea about the current state of the market, they do and know how to prepare a job properly.

If OP got himself into that situation and throws the fault on the Mavic or DJI, remind me never to hire them.

Lol every quad has a different bored but once I set everything up the way I wanted then I don't need to update it or do anything it's ready to go with no updates. I have q100 mini fpv up to a 525mm foldable aluminum X frame the first one I built. I also have rc helicopters and airplanes that just sit there after I built my first quad. The DJI is the only one that has the NFZ and if I wanted to fly at a airport I could as could most others that built there own. But it's called personal responsibility and taken responsibility for your actions like most do. We do not need China or government to do it for us especially in my case and many others it's a hobby for fun!
