My amp/antenna build and distance test (I will update thread as i go)

When you fly with the panel, turn your back to your WiFi source in your house or yard the aluminum panel on the back of the panel is ground and it catches most of it. I fly from my patio most of the time and have a strong WiFi source in my house but I’m pointed away from it. I also fly right next to (500 feet away) from a 500KVA powerline.
I always fly over it, not under

yes for all my test my back is facing my router

so the higher the number in the data means its picking up wifi in that area correct or no?

The numbers high when you first took off were most likely your WiFi as you got further away, depending on your area it can be interference or just loss of a weak signal only you know the area you fly.

With a Omni it makes little difference if your back is to your WiFi the only shielding it’s getting is your body. If you stood on the back side of a metal shed and flew away from it. It would shield from your WiFi some the Omni signal will wrap around some also

In a perfect signal world zero errors is good............

yes I think its both interference and loss of signal the route I fly does have a couple of house so I am thinking their wifi and my signal being weak in that area due to the distance I am at

also it seems that 6 dbi antenna was really bad on picking up my wifi cause the other antennas had 0 for take off

ok i am going to start to build my amp layout I hope by this weekend I will have it done...but we may get snow here in the next couple of days :(

Got 3 inches last night, it was gone by 12:00 crazy weather.

You guys are getting me hooked on all this, and now my son starts racing soon so flying won't be easy. See some night flying coming.

they are saying 5 - 9 :( and ohhh yes its easy to get hooked!!!! once I get my amps layout and running a few test I may just have to order some panels!!!!

Interesting thread! Thanks for posting your progress.
Just a quick question;
I see that all the modifications are to the remote control, what is done to the Mavic? I mean its a two way deal, what good is being able to transmit to the drone in the next state, if the drone cant reach back to the remote?

It reminds me of the CB radio days. Mod the transmit power to reach out forever, so more people can hear you, but if they arent modded they cant get a signal back to you.
Again THANKS!

ETA, I under stand update to a better receive antenna, but the power is still very small and easily interfered with

Your thinking more like me, amp the t.x side on both bird and controller, boosting r.x side doesn't do enough.

Thats what makes sense to me. as long as the RC has a LITTLE more power than the Mavic, you have a decent balance, but turning the rc out put WAY up doesnt do much for the mavic telling you if it heard you or not.

keep in mind that the mavic TX does go up!!! when its looking for the remote controller signal!!! if I am recalling this right! there is a thread about this...let me see if I can find it
