Official Mavic 2 Range Leaderboard

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (RULES EDIT VERSION 12)

This thread is to track and report the top 20 individuals that are able to fly their Mavic2 the farthest distance from their take off home point and return home IN ONE FLIGHT in each of the classes**. This does NOT mean total distance traveled, it means how far away you made it (as the crow flies) from your take off home point.

On this leaderboard, an Airdata URL link (Drone Data Management and Flight Analysis | Airdata UAV) is required and will be used to determine the max distance from your take off home point (not what the Go4 app says, which will always slightly differ from airdata). It will also be used to verify that your Mavic2 landed within 100 feet of the take off home point** (this 100 foot buffer is to allow for GPS reporting errors that happen occasionally during solar storms or high KP index; or if someone parked their truck where you took off (this actually happened to someone and a 100 foot buffer is a fair and reasonable number to accommodate). During your flight, your remote controller and antennas cannot move more than 100 feet away from your take off home point during the entire flight***. Airdata will be used to determine if this buffer was maintained.

1538920352722.png

You may only hold a single position in each class. Your best distance will be recorded and any previous records are discarded in each class. In the event of a distance tie, the lowest flight time will be the tie breaker. This is an example thread post that you would submit, but change the class and Airdata link to match your flight:

"I am submitting this STOCK CLASS flight for consideration to be placed on the leader board.
https://<Your-Airdata-Flight-Link>
https://<Your-Youtube-Video-Link> (optional)"

THE THREAD OWNER HAS FILTERS SETUP TO ALERT HIM OF THIS SPECIFIC TEXT STRING, IF YOU USE A DIFFERENT SENTENCE FORMAT IT MAY DELAY YOUR LEADER BOARD POSTING.
The thread owner will typically update the leader board stats each evening. But please allow for and expect up to 5 calendar days for updates to be completed.

Although not required for consideration (but will add more validity to your flight if questioned), it is highly recommended that you record the Go4/Pilot/Litchi app video in your Android or iOS device of every flight and have this video available on youtube/vimeo in case there is a dispute of your flight. When sharing a video link, provide the full unedited Go4/Pilot/Litchi app flight video from takeoff to touchdown on youtube/vimeo. Please do not edit the video except time lapse to speed it up and shorten the video length (5 minute total video length is recommended).

Although not required for consideration (but will add more validity to your flight if questioned), that you attach to your submission a close up picture of your bird just before take off (on a scale showing AUW in grams) for those that follow this thread to see what mods you have used and compare to their own. This will encourage community engagement and would be appreciated by all.

If there is suspicion of cheating, or for any dispute resolution not covered here, the top 5 record holders of each class will vote and have final say on the matter in question. The thread owner will coordinate the vote and responses within 5 calendar days will determine the outcome. If there is a tie, the owner of this thread will determine tiebreaker within 3 calendar days. If the thread owner does not respond within 3 calendar days (due to vacation/holiday/etc.), the moderators of the site HAVE APPROVAL AT THEIR DISCRETION to make the vote call if an inordinate amount of time has passed and the thread owner is MIA for whatever reason. Alternatively, the moderators may choose to do nothing and let the matter sit until the thread owner returns.

NOTE: IT IS OUTSIDE THE INTENTION AND SPIRIT OF THIS RANGE COMPETITION TO CONSIDER OR ALLOW ANY TYPE OF PIT STOP OR MID FLIGHT BATTERY SWAP OR MID FLIGHT BATTERY CHARGE. YOUR BIRD CAN NOT MAKE PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH ANYTHING DURING THE ENTIRE FLIGHT OR IT WILL BE DECLARED INELIGIBLE.

To share your Airdata flight, login and open the flight in question. Then click the share button (depicted below). Also make sure to enable the following share settings at a minimum in order to be considered.

STOCK CLASS (over 25,000 ft!)
This class is 100% stock hardware and 100% factory software for the Mavic2 aircraft and Mavic2 remote controller. Any non powered passive material may be added to the bird or remote controller that does not improve flight performance (this exception is allowed for pilots that wish to use the same bird in the other classes and permanent wiring is installed). No other modification of the physical aircraft or remote controller permitted in this class. The factory battery can not be overcharged past the published voltage capacity. The factory battery must be charged by the factory battery charger. You may change any factory supported software settings in the Go4 app. No jettison techniques allowed in this class to reduce weight mid-flight.

MODIFIED CLASS (over 40,000 ft!)
This class is 100% stock aircraft hardware, but additional systems may be added (including but not limited to, batteries, amplifiers, associated wiring, etc). This class specifically prohibits any removal of factory parts for weight reduction methods or any other reason. All factory hardware must stay intact and only additions are allowed (exception being small holes drilled to allow for routing of cables). The aircraft software may be modified in this class. The remote controller hardware and software may be modified in this class. If you decide to remove a fan, camera, extra screws, or labels from the aircraft, or if you want after market props or antenna replacements on the aircraft, you will need to report in the unlimited class. No jettison techniques allowed in this class to reduce weight mid-flight. Batteries can be overcharged in this class.

UNLIMITED CLASS (over 45,000ft)
The only requirement in the unlimited class is that the main system board from the Mavic2 aircraft is used and the factory ESC board is used intact with 4 motors, together with a Mavic2 remote controller. Any and all hardware or software modifications are allowed in this class on the aircraft and remote controller. Jettison techniques are allowed in this class. Batteries can be overcharged in this class. ***The remote controller and its antennas can physically move location at will during the flight in this class (alternative methods from Airdata may be needed to calculate max distance from the original home point and will be noted here as this technique evolves).

THIS IS A PLACEHOLDER AND THREAD FOR DISCUSSION AND DEBATE ON A NEW AND IMPROVED RANGE LEADERBOARD RULES OF ENGAGEMENT FOR THE ANTICIPATED MAVIC2. THE FOLLOWING IS MY PERSONAL OPINION BASED ON FEEDBACK FROM MANY FOLKS WITH A VESTED INTEREST IN THIS. I ENCOURAGE DEBATE AND OPINIONS BUT BE SURE TO CONFORM TO THE FORUM GUIDELINES. TROLLS WILL BE REPORTED. Community Rules
*****

Official Mavic2 Range Leaderboard

This thread is to track and report the top 20 individuals that are able to fly their Mavic2 the farthest distance from their take off home point and return home IN ONE FLIGHT in each class. This does NOT mean total distance traveled, it means how far away you made it (as the crow flies) from your take off home point.

On this leader board, an Airdata URL link is required and will be used to determine the max distance from your take off home point. It will also be used to verify that your Mavic2 landed within 50 feet of the take off home point (this buffer is to allow for GPS reporting errors that happen occasionally). During your flight, your remote controller and antennas can not move more than 50 feet away from your take off home point during the entire flight.

You may only hold a single position in each class. Your best distance will be recorded and any previous records are discarded in each class.

If there is suspicion of cheating, the top 10 record holders of the class in question will vote and have final say on the matter in question. If a vote is approved by the thread owner, all responses within 5 calendar days will determine the outcome. If there is a tie, the owner of this thread will determine tie breaker within 3 calendar days. If the thread owner does not respond, the moderators of the site will make the call unless the thread owner responds first.

Although not required for consideration, a screen shot right after takeoff, at the turn, and while landing will help greatly in case of a disputed flight. Also a picture of your bird at take off would not hurt either. Every flight must provide an Airdata link regardless to be considered.

For dispute resolution of topics not covered here, the top 5 record holders of each class will hold a vote to determine the outcome of the dispute. The thread owner will moderate the voting process and be the tie breaker if needed. If the thread owner does not respond, the moderators of the site will make the call unless the thread owner responds first.

STOCK CLASS
This class is 100% stock hardware and 100% factory software for the Mavic2 aircraft and Mavic2 remote controller. No modification of the physical aircraft or remote controller permitted in this class. The factory battery can not be overcharged past the published voltage capacity.

Will be interesting when we do get these in and sure this will go about like the others threads.
If anyone does get out of line just report and not argue and all will be good .0ROJYyg.png

I would assume it don't but best to ask time of day don't matter correct? meaning day or night? also what about location? any restriction on that? perhaps categories? over open water, woods, city, etc?

ohhhh this is for the mavic2!!! my bad! sorry :)

Big thumbs up[emoji106]!!

I like the rules and breaking it into 3 classes.

Beanbubba, do you have any ideas on how to address ties if the Mavic2 has a hard distance limit like the Mavic Pro has?

One option is to use time. The person that hit the limit and return to the home point the fastest.

If we run into another distance limit, I would recommend that we score it like golf. For example:

1. 59,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#
1. 59,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#
1. 59,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#

1. 59,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#
6. 50,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#
7. 49,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#
8. 48,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#
9. 47,000 feet - username - AirdataURL - Post#
etc, etc,etc.

Some would argue that the slowest time would be more challenging than the fastest time.

Doing it like golf is a good option. I’m just not a fan of having potential ties. If I had to vote on it, I would definitely go with the fastest one to the limit and back rather than the slowest/longest time, just because someone could fly to the limit and once they get with in a few hundred feet of the home point, slow down to a near hover and just wait until the battery gets to near 0% then fly and land within 50 feet of the home point.

Good point, I didn't think of that.

You make a strong argument, I do agree and we should add a flight time column and use that as the tie breaker:

1. 59,000 feet - 40:00 - username - AirdataURL - Post#
2. 59,000 feet - 41:00 - username - AirdataURL - Post#
3. 59,000 feet - 42:00 - username - AirdataURL - Post#

Edit version #2 of the first post is complete and contains the recommendations so far. I made assumptions about the moderators role in this and would like their feedback. The reason I proposed this is because there have been a couple times we lost the thread owner for months and folks got quite upset. Let me know if you moderators want me to leave or remove that language.

I must make note and mention this. When I created the Official Mavic Air Range Leaderboard! , I was not able to edit the board due to issues with editing permissions from this forum. @dirkclod can vouch for this. I even mention it in the thread itself. This was the case with many members that had created leaderboard threads. Right now, all members can edit and post freely thanks to members like us that brought it to the attention of the main admins of the DronePilots.zone - The World's Largest Drone Community
When the new DJI product is announced, You maybe surprised on how you will have to maintain or rethink your approach on running a LeaderBoard.
So far, You are only still organizing it. We will see.;)

Dude, I am all ears! Thanks for sharing and thats the point of this thread is to get in front of it and try to avoid the flaws in the past solutions. If you have a better idea, please share. I don't claim to have the best answer.

Just wait for DJI to give us the goods first, then you will have fun building the board.,, Trust me!,,:D, I will help you then....;)

I don't follow. The way the forum threads are currently setup the originator of a thread can edit the initial post as many times as needed (to update the leaderboard in the first post). Everyone else can post comments to the thread but can't edit any posts but their own. Your statement of "was not able to edit the board due to issues with editing permissions from this forum" does not follow any behavior of any thread I have seen on this site.

Please elaborate on what you mean by this.
